Chicago Prepares for $125,000 Enthronement Celebrations of New Metropolitan

Archbishop Demetrios of America has announced the ordination and enthronement dates of Metropolitan-elect Nathanael of Chicago, who will assume the empty see following the passing of Metropolitan Iakovos last year.

A meeting took place in Chicago with numerous leaders from various Church committees and organizations that will form the team responsible for organizing the enthronement celebrations and services, which happen to fall during the weekend of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and Greek Independence Day.

According to individuals at the meeting, the amount of $125,000 to $150,000 will be raised for the enthronement events, as well as monies required to remodel the Metropolis residence in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood where Metropolitan Iakovos lived and where the offices are housed.

On Saturday, March 17, 2018 the ordination of Archimandrite Nathanael Symeonides to the Episcopacy will take place at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City.

The service of Orthros will begin at 8:30am and the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy will begin at 9:30am.

Archbishop Demetrios of America will enthrone Metropolitan-elect Nathanael on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Chicago’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation with the service beginning at 11:00am.
