Because to date, while every major religious leader– the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, numerous mainline Christian leaders of the United States, dozens of Jewish organizations and prominent Rabbis have all voiced their opposition to President Donald Trump’s executive order on immigration– the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America has been silent.

Not a word from the leader of the church, Archbishop Demetrios. Not a single press releases or position statement, reminding the faithful that theirs is a church founded by immigrants, with an immigrant at its helm.

Many are asking where the Church of the late Archbishop Iakovos is– when injustice was responded to with Christian love and not out of fear that we might offend those at the top.

Perhaps the Church fears the President will cancel the annual Greek Independence Day gathering at the White House.

Regardless of what they fear, the hypocrisy of the official Greek Orthodox Church via its silence, is deafening.
