Greek Orthodox Archon, Former NY Senate Leader Dean Skelos Convicted to Five Years in Prison

Once one of the most powerful politicians in the state of New York and a listed member of the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Dean Skelos was sentenced to five years in prison on Thursday, May 12, 2016.

Th sentencing concludes an extraordinary trial which showed a massive abuse of power, nepotism and exposed a culture of bribes, secret deals, bullying of business owners for cash and contracts headed by Mr. Skelos.

The former Republican majority leader of the New York State Senate was convicted of bribery, extortion and conspiracy.

Before announcing the prison sentence, Judge Kimba M. Wood of Federal District Court in Manhattan scolded the former senator for ignoring his “moral compass,” and violating his “unique position of power and trust.”

“Your cynicism in abusing your power has been exposed in your own words,” the judge said, referring to wiretapped conversations that were played at trial.

Skelos is still listed as an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and has appeared numerous times alongside Archbishop Demetrios of America at numerous Greek Orthodox Church functions.
