President Obama to Host Greek Independence Day Celebration at White House April 16th

By on April 3, 2015

For the 30th consecutive year, the White House will honor the Greek American community and the American relationship with Greece with a reception to celebrate Greek Independence Day. The President will host prominent Greek Americans, representatives of the Greek Orthodox Church headed by Archbishop Demetrios of America and heads of the community’s organizations.

In years past, events have ranged from small, private gatherings with the President in the Oval Office to large public celebrations with celebrity chefs and music.

The event has often sparked controversy amongst Greek Americans and the “who’s who” of the community and who makes it on the guest list every year. The event is organized every year by the Manatos Family who run Manatos and Manatos, a powerful lobbying firm in Washington DC with close ties to the Obama White House.
